Insert Custom Content into Individual Documents

  • 6 mths ago

In SolarNexus, you use document templates to dynamically generate documents for individual solutions defined for each project. In many cases you simply generate a PDF directly from the data in SolarNexus. But what if you want to include some piece of information that SolarNexus does not provide currently, or cannot provide because it comes from another source? Examples of custom content?

  • production estimates from a manufacturer's software application
  • custom payment milestones into a specific customer's contract

In SolarNexus, you can setup a document template that allows the user to input individual content into the document before it generates the PDF.

Steps for creating the Document Template to include custom content:

  1. User with administrative permissions edits the document template. Go to Administration > Document Templates.  If you want to use one of SolarNexus' existing templates, you'll need to create your own copy of it. Simply Add Template, and select the existing template that you want to copy from in the "Base this template on..." drop-down.
  2. In the editor for the template, check the "sales user will be able to make edits to the HTML document prior to generating the PDF" box. This means that after the user creates the document from this template, it will be put into the editor where the user will be allowed to make edits prior to generating a PDF from it.
  3. Edit the HTML document template to provide a place where the user can type in the desired custom content.
  4. Although not required, SolarNexus recommends that you update the document's description to include directions to the user about getting and entering the desired custom content (where to get it, where and what to input into the document).
  5. Click on "Update"

Now you have a document template that includes all the standard content, and a place where custom content will be added when users create each document in their project solutions.

Steps for Generating Docs with Custom Content

  1. On Docs screen within a solution, click on Create Sales Proposal or Other Document.
  2. Select the document template that will include the custom content
  3. Name the document you are generating
  4. Create the document
  5. Add custom content within the editor (follow instructions provided in Description field).
  6. Save the document.
  7. Generate PDF.
