How is the current utility bill calculated?
The Your Current Utility Bill number is calculated using this equation:
(current cost per kWh x average monthly consumption) = current utility bill
Which consists of these two numbers:
-
Average Monthly Consumption: this is found by taking the customer’s annual consumption and dividing it by 12 to get the average per month.
-
The Current Cost per kWh rate: This value is amount the utility company charges for each unit of energy, as well as any fixed charges broken down to a rate.
-
This comes from the utility company data, which is added and updated by our Utility Research team.
-
The current utility bill is an average, meaning it is the customer’s entire estimated yearly cost divided by 12 to give a single monthly average.
